Biography
Doretta Morrow, born Doretta Marano on January 27, 1928, in Brooklyn, New York, was an American singer and actress. She began studying piano and singing at a young age while living in Venice, Italy. Morrow made her Broadway debut in 1946 as Gretchen in the revival of The Red Mill. Her breakthrough role came in 1948 when she created the character Kitty Verdun in the original production of Where's Charley?, introducing the song "My Darling, My Darling" (a duet with Byron Palmer). She went on to create notable roles in Broadway musicals such as Tuptim in The King and I (1951) and Marsinah in Kismet (1953). Morrow also starred opposite Mario Lanza in the 1952 film Because You're Mine. She retired from performance in 1960 and died in London on February 28, 1968.
