Biography

Djo is the stage name of the US actor and musician born Joseph David Keery on 24 April 1992 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Joe Keery gained notoriety for his role as Steve Harrington in the blockbuster Netflix series Stranger Things while simultaneously forging a music career that began with his solo work as Cool Cool Cool. His music output evolved as he joined the Chicago indie band Post Animal, whose debut album came out in 2015 and follow-up, When I Think Of You In A Castle, three years later. He quit to focus on his acting pursuits before re-launching his career as a solo artist in 2019 under the Djo name with the single "Roddy." A second Djo single, "Chateau (Feel Alright)," followed in August 2019 and his debut album of lush psychedelic pop, Twenty Twenty, came out later that year. He looked to synth-pop for his second album Decide in 2022, which spawned a viral single in "End of Beginning," giving Djo his first taste of the US Billboard Hot 100, where it belatedly reached number 51 in March 2024 after finding fame on TikTok. He released his third album, The Crux, in April 2025. The LP went to number ten on the US rock chart.
