Care was an English new wave band formed in 1983 in Liverpool, England by vocalist Paul Simpson and guitarist Ian Broudie. Following the split of the Wild Swans, Simpson and Broudie came together to form Care. Their first single was released in June 1983. In October 1983, they achieved their highest chart position with "Flaming Sword", which reached number 48 on the UK Singles Chart. The band's other notable releases include "Whatever Possessed You" and "My Boyish Days (Drink To Me)". In 1997, a compilation album titled Diamonds & Emeralds was released, featuring their singles, B-sides, unfinished demos, and tracks intended for an unreleased album. Care developed a cult following in Japan and the Philippines, where their songs were more popular than in their native UK. The band disbanded in 1985 after Simpson's departure. Post-Care, Simpson re-formed the Wild Swans and released two albums, Bringing Home the Ashes (1988) and Space Flower (1990), with Broudie producing the latter. Broudie went on to form the Lightning Seeds in the late 1980s, releasing several hit singles.
