Diomedes y Grupo Mío emerged as a prominent merengue ensemble from the Dominican Republic, led by the talented vocalist and trumpeter Diomedes Núñez Guzmán. Born on February 3, 1967, in Santa Cruz de Mao, Valverde, Diomedes Núñez's musical journey began at the age of 16 when he joined Alex Bueno's orchestra as a trumpeter, later advancing to vocalist. His career flourished as he collaborated with esteemed groups such as Los Hijos del Rey and Dioni Fernández's El Equipo, contributing to hits like "La Lloré" and "Pum, Pum." In 1993, he established his own band, El Grupo Mío, marking a significant milestone in his artistic trajectory. The group released several successful albums, including "Esto se encendió," "Esto e' pa' hombre," "Salvaje," "Ya empezó la fiesta," and "Diómedes el artista," solidifying their status in the merengue scene. Their energetic performances and memorable tracks earned them nominations for the prestigious Casandra Awards in 2003, highlighting their impact on Dominican music. Diomedes Núñez's enduring legacy as a merengue icon continued until his passing on March 9, 2025, leaving an indelible mark on the genre and inspiring future generations of musicians.
