Biography

Richard Gilbert Emery, known professionally as Dick Emery, was born on February 19, 1915, in Bloomsbury, London. He began his career as a singer and comic actor, initially gaining recognition through radio broadcasts in the 1950s. His first notable single release was "A Cockney Christmas" in 1962. Dick Emery's television debut came in 1950 on The Centre Show, leading to appearances on various programs such as Round the Bend and Educating Archie. He gained significant popularity with his self-titled series, The Dick Emery Show, which aired from 1963 to 1981. During this period, he released several albums including Dick Emery Sings in 1969 and Party Time in 1974. Notable singles included "I (Who Have Nothing)" in 1963, "If You Love Her" in 1969, and "You Are Awful (But I Like You) / Dance, Dance" in 1973. Dick Emery's vocal talents were also featured in films like Yellow Submarine, where he voiced characters such as "The Nowhere Man" Jeremy Hillary Boob. His career spanned various genres including Middle of the Road and Pop music. He continued to perform until his death on January 2, 1983.
