Biography
Devon Russell, born in Jamaica on August 6, 1948, was a Jamaican singer known for his contributions to reggae music. His career began in the late 1960s as a member of The Tartans. After the group disbanded, Russell embarked on a solo career and briefly joined Cultural Roots. In the mid-1970s, he recorded songs for Lee âScratchâ Perry. His first solo album, Roots Music, was produced by Clement "Coxsone" Dodd and released in 1982. Russell toured Europe with The Congos in 1983 before moving to the UK. In 1993, he released Darker Than Blue, an homage to Curtis Mayfield. Russell passed away on June 18, 1997, due to a brain tumor.
