Defiance, Ohio formed in 2002 in Columbus, Ohio. The folk punk band initially consisted of Geoff Hing on guitar, Ryan Woods on bass, and Will Staler on drums. By the time they recorded their first demo, Elizabeth "BZ" Gibbs joined on violin and Sherri Miller on cello. Defiance, Ohio were also known for their association with Plan-It-X Records and anti-capitalist themes. Their debut album, Share What Ya Got, was self-released in 2003 and later reissued by No Idea Records. The band gained attention through extensive touring and collaborations, including split EPs with Ghost Mice and Environmental Youth Crunch. Notable releases include The Great Depression (2006), The Fear, the Fear, the Fear (2007), and Midwestern Minutes (2010). The band became inactive in 2015.
