Biography

Dean Stanley Geyer, born on 20 March 1986 in Johannesburg, South Africa, is a singer-songwriter and actor. He began his music career at an early age, learning to play the guitar and writing his first song, "Change", inspired by his move from South Africa to Australia. In 2004, Geyer formed a band called Third Edge and recorded original music. Geyer auditioned for the fourth series of Australian Idol in 2006, performing Marc Cohn's "Walking In Memphis" and his self-composed piece "Nice to Meet You", which earned him a spot in the Top 100. He progressed through the competition, impressing judges with performances such as Ryan Cabrera's "On the Way Down" and U2's "Beautiful Day". Despite being a fan favorite, Geyer finished third behind Jessica Mauboy and Damien Leith. Following his Australian Idol appearance, Geyer signed a multiple album recording contract with SonyBMG Australia in 2006. His debut single "If You Don't Mean It" peaked at Number 10 on the ARIA Charts in April 2007. The following month, he released his debut album Rush, which debuted and peaked at Number 7 on the ARIA Charts. Despite initial success, the album dropped out of the charts due to limited promotion. In November 2007, Geyer joined the cast of the Australian soap opera Neighbours.
