Biography

A tenor and soprano saxophonist who emerged in the early 1990s, David Sánchez has continued to bring his Latin roots to life with albums celebrated by critics and jazz fans alike. After making his debut in Dizzy Gillespie's last orchestra, the New York-based Puerto Rican musician went on to record seven albums for Columbia, all of which feature a collective spirit. One of them, Coral (2004), won a Grammy Award. This was followed by the ambitious Cultural Survival (2008) and a trio collaboration on Ninety Miles (2011) with Stefon Harris and Christian Scott.
