Deitra Cherelle Hicks, born December 27, 1967 in the United States, is an American singer who began performing in her grandfatherâs church choir in Harlem. Her early teens saw her forming The Hicks Sisters with her sister Miriam, a duo that attracted Broadway producers and led to a lead role in the offâBroadway musical Mama I Want To Sing! from 1986 to 1990. In 1989, after a solo deal with Capitol Records, Deitra Cherelle Hicks released her selfâtitled album D'Atra Hicks on Septemberâ¯9, 1989; the album entered the Topâ¯R&B Albums chart at number 63 and remained for ten weeks. The same year she issued the singles "You Make Me Want To Give It Up" and "Sweet Talk", followed by "Heart Of Gold" in 1990. Her second album, Finally My Time, appeared in 2007. Deitra Cherelle Hicks also contributed vocals to Earnest Pughâs 2018 album The UnSung Hits Vol.â¯1 and appeared in several Tyler Perry stage plays, cementing her presence in soul music and theater.
