Biography

Hot Snakes were an American post-hardcore band formed in 1999 in San Diego, California. Led by Rick Froberg and John Reis, who had previously collaborated in bands such as Pitchfork and Drive Like Jehu. Hot Snakes originated when Reis recorded songs with drummer Jason Kourkounis and invited Froberg to contribute vocals. Their debut album, Automatic Midnight, was released in 2000 via Swami Records. The band disbanded in 2005 after releasing three studio albums: Suicide Invoice (2002) and Audit in Progress (2004). Notable achievements include being named "best punk album" at the 2005 San Diego Music Awards for Audit in Progress and recording a cover of Government Issue's "Time to Escape" for the soundtrack of the video game Tony Hawk's American Wasteland. Hot Snakes reunited in 2011 and released their final album, Jericho Sirens, in 2018. Froberg died on June 30, 2023.
