Dorothy Snowden "Dar" Williams, born April 19, 1967, in Mount Kisco, New York, is an American singer-songwriter known for her work in pop folk music. She began playing the guitar at age nine and wrote her first song two years later. In 1990, Williams moved to Boston to pursue a career in theater but soon shifted focus to music, recording her debut EP I Have No History (1990). Her breakthrough came with The Honesty Room (1993), which was reissued in 1995 and became one of the top-selling independent folk albums of that year. Subsequent releases include Mortal City (1996) and End of the Summer (1997). Dorothy Snowden "Dar" Williams has collaborated extensively, touring with artists like Joan Baez and Ani DiFranco. Notable later albums include The Green World (2000), The Beauty of the Rain (2003), and In the Time of Gods (2012).
