Biography
Born in New York on October 2, 1967, guitarist and folk performer Gillian Welch captures the spirit of bluegrass, folk and country and brings it to life in her compositions. Accompanied by Dave Rawlings, her debut album Revival (1996) was produced by T-Bone Burnett. Her participation in the soundtrack to the film O Brother, Where Art Thou? in 2000 and on tribute albums to Dwight Yoakam and Gram Parsons reinforced the reputation of this critical darling. In 2001, the Grammy-nominated album Time (The Revelator), , became an instant classic. Continuing in the same style, Gillian Welch followed up with the electric Soul Journey in 2003 and The Harrow & The Harvest, a two-part album in 2011, which reached No. 20 on the Billboard charts. After this second Grammy nomination follows the archival compilation Boots No. 1: The Official Revival Bootleg (2016), featuring different takes of Revival tracks, demos of them and eight unreleased tracks left out. Four years later, the duo signed All the Good Times (Are Past & Gone), which included covers and traditional songs recorded during the Covid-19 pandemic. The first album to be credited to both names won the Grammy Award for Best Folk Record in 2021. In 2024, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings return with Woodland, the first collection of original joint material in thirteen years.
