CzesÅaw Juliusz Wydrzycki, known professionally as CzesÅaw Niemen, was born on February 16, 1939, in Stare Wasiliszki, Poland. He started his music career in the early 1960s with the band Niebiesko-Czarni. Niemen's first solo album, Dziwny Jest Ten Åwiat..., was released in 1967. This album included the hit song "Dziwny Jest Ten Åwiat", which became an anthem for Polish youth. In 1968, he signed with CBS and moved to Milan, Italy. His breakthrough international album, Enigmatic, was released in 1970 and featured the sixteen-minute track "Bema pamiÄci żaÅobny - rapsod", a blend of traditional church music and avant-garde rock. Niemen continued to evolve his sound, incorporating psychedelic and electronic elements into his work. He collaborated with notable musicians such as Rick Laird and Jan Hammer on albums like Mourner's Rhapsody (1975). In his later years, Niemen explored painting and graphic arts alongside his music career. He passed away on January 17, 2004, due to cancer.
