Biography

Crystal Bowersox loved music from an early age and began writing her first songs and playing in gigs at the age of ten. She and her brothers set up a band together, calling themselves Oldinuph, a pun on their young ages, and played shows mostly using material written by Bowersox. She rose to public attention in the ninth series of 'American Idol' in 2009, where she was the first female finalist in three years and finished as runner-up to Lee DeWyze. Her best performance from the show, a rendition of Solomon Burke's 'Up to the Mountain' was released as a single in 2010. Following the show, she signed with Jive Records and released her debut album 'Farmer's Daughter' in 2010. The album reached number two in the US Rock Charts, and its title track was also released as a single in the same year. At around this time, Bowersox was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, and she has campaigned to raise awareness of the condition ever since. In 2012, she moved to Shanachie Records and released the EP 'Once Upon a Time' which consisted of tracks which had been written before she appeared on 'American Idol'. This was followed in 2013 by a second album 'All That for This' in 2013 and second EP 'Promises' in 2014. Her third album 'Alive' was released in 2017 and was followed by a tour during which she performed in several different American states.
