Biography
Cristina Braga, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1966, began her musical journey at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiroâs School of Music, becoming the first female principal harpist of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Theatro Municipal in 1993, a position she held until 2016. Her solo debut, Espelho Dâágua (2000), was followed by Harpa Brasileira in 2005, where she reimagined Brazilian classics like âManhã de Carnaval,â âInsensatez,â and âCorcovado,â showcasing her gift for blending harp with samba and bossa nova. In 2008 she collaborated with cellist Eugene Friesen on Paisagem, an instrumental tribute to Brazilian songwriters Tom Jobim and Chico Buarque, and in 2013 released Samba, Jazz and Love, merging jazz textures with Brazilian rhythms. Her 2024 tribute album Revisitando Elis Regina featured a delicate rendition of âFascinação,â while that same year she also performed tracks from her live 2025 release Estão Voltando as Flores (Ao Vivo) alongside Ricardo Medeiros, solidifying her reputation for intimate yet sophisticated harmony.
