Biography

Cocobat is a Japanese metal band formed in 1991 in Japan, originally comprising bassist Take‑Shit, vocalist Ryuji, guitarist Suzuki Shinichi, and drummer Matsuzaki. The group released its first single, "The Nightmare Runs / Skimen", on 26 February 1993, shortly after signing with the indie label Sinkie, and followed with the debut album Cocobat Crunch in April 1992. In 1993 the band joined Toy’s Factory and reissued Cocobat Crunch under the new label; the same year, Struggle Of Aphrodite was released and the band embarked on a nationwide tour. After two members departed in December 1993, Take‑Shit and Ryuji remained, and the lineup changed again in 1994 with the addition of guitarist Tomoda and drummer Murochin, though Ryuji left after Footprints In The Sky (1 June 1994). The band released Posi‑Traction (1 June 1995) before disbanding later that year, leaving Take‑Shit as the sole member. Cocobat re‑formed in December 1996 with new vocalist Hideki, drummer Kame, and guitarist Koji, issuing Return Of Grasshopper (1 December 1996). In 2000, they released 1st single, "Araña" and it peaked at number thirty-nine on the Oricon chart. Subsequent releases included Tsukiookami (21 December 1998), I Versus I (2000), Supercharged Chocolate Meltdown (August 2001), Ghost Tree Giant (19 December 2001), Hammerslave – History 10×20 (19 September 2002), and 12 Steps (2005).
