Biography

Clancy Eccles was born on December 9, 1940 in Dean Pen, St. Mary, Jamaica, and became known for his contributions to ska and reggae music. His professional singing career began as a teenager performing at hotels along the north coast of Jamaica. In 1959, he moved to Kingston where he started his recording career with Coxsone Dodd, achieving an early hit with "Freedom" in 1961. Eccles' work often carried social themes, notably with songs like "Power for the People" and "Rod of Correction". He produced notable tracks such as Eric 'Monty' Morris' "Say What You're Saying" and his own "Feel The Rhythm". Eccles launched several record labels, including Clansone and Clandisc. His later years saw a focus on live concert promotion and re-issues of his back catalogue. Eccles passed away on June 30, 2005.
