Biography
Citizen is an American rock band from Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio, formed in 2009 by Mat Kerekes after his departure from The Sound of Glory. The band released their EP Young States in 2011, which was reissued by Run for Cover Records in 2012. Citizen gained significant traction with their debut studio album, Youth, released in 2013, featuring the track "How Does It Feel?". The band's second album, Everybody is Going to Heaven (2015), charted at number 2 on the Billboard Vinyl Albums chart. Citizen continued with As You Please (2017), Life in Your Glass World (2021), and Calling the Dogs (2023). In 2025, the band performed a one-off show featuring Everyone is Going to Heaven in its entirety to commemorate the albumâs 10th anniversary. The performance was later released as the live album and film Everybody is Going to Heaven (Live in Detroit), issued exclusively on cassette and VHS, respectively. Recorded by Kerekes at his Toledo home studio and mixed by Tom Lord-Alge, Citizenâs sixth studio album, Halcyon Blues, was preceded by âHighs and Lows,â âHalcyon Blues,â âI Can See You From Here,â and âGood Fortuneâ and was released through Run for Cover Records on August 7, 2026.
