Biography

Cinder Well is the folk project of American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Amelia Baker. With roots in Appalachian ballads and shaped by years spent between California and Ireland, her music blends traditional song forms with a pared-down, immersive atmosphere. After collaborating with Californian band Blackburn Raum from the mid-2010s, then with The Gembrokers in the early 2010s, she emerged as a solo artist a few years later with the album Cinder Well (2015), followed by The Unconscious Echo (2018), with its minimalist, reverberated arrangements. Delivering intimate folk music with experimental textures, steeped in American and Irish traditions, Cinder Well then deepened her style on the albums No Summer (2020) and Cadence (2023), blending traditional songs and original compositions in meditative interpretations. Meanwhile, the musician collaborated with Jim Ghedi on the EP I Am a Youth That's Inclined to Ramble. In 2026, Cinder Well wrote the theme song for the Small Prophets series.
