Biography

One of the freshest voices in the contemporary Christian music scene, American singer-songwriter Chris Renzema writes ethereal indie folk songs that mirror the spiritual nature of his message. Born Christopher David Renzema in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he began playing guitar and writing songs during his adolescence, influenced by the likes of John Mark McMillan and Wilco. He began performing at his local church shortly after and, following a mission trip to Guatemala, he decided to pursue a career as a full-time musician. Recorded in just 19 hours, his debut EP Age to Age appeared in 2014 and was followed by a move to Nashville the next year. After the release of the single "Son of God" in 2017, Chris Renzema found success with his first full-length I'll Be the Branches (2018), which became a hit on streaming services thanks to the popularity of singles like "How to Be Yours," "I Don't Wanna Go," and "Found." The great reception of his studio debut helped him ink a deal with Christian label Centricity Music, which released his sophomore effort Let the Ground Rest in 2020. Driven by the Ellie Holcomb collaboration "Just as Good," a third LP titled Get Out of the Way of Your Own Heart saw the light in 2021 and was nominated for Best Rock/Contemporary Album at the GMA Dove Awards. Preceded by the single "God & Prozac," a third LP titled Manna arrived in 2024.
