Biography

Chatham County Line is an American Americana and bluegrass band formed in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1999 from members of Stillhouse. Their original lineup included lead singer-songwriter Dave Wilson, mandolin/fiddle player John Teer, upright bassist/pedal steel guitarist Greg Readling, and banjo picker Chandler Holt. Their breakthrough came when producer Chris Stamey offered to record them after seeing them open for Tift Merritt’s band The Carbines, leading to a deal with Yep Roc Records. Notable releases include Chatham County Line (2003), Speed of the Whippoorwill (2006), IV (2008), Wildwood (2010), Tightrope (2014), and Strange Fascination (2020). They achieved four Number 1 albums on the Top Bluegrass Albums chart, and collaborated with Norwegian country musician Jonas Fjeld and American singer Judy Collins. They released the album Hiyo (2024).
