Biography

Charles Levi Walker, born on November 2, 1926, in Copeville, Texas, was an American country music singer. He joined Bill Boyd's Cowboy Ramblers in 1943 and later served as a disc jockey for the Armed Forces Radio Network during World War II. Walker's first hit, "Only You, Only You", co-written with Jack Newman, reached number 9 on the country chart in January 1956. He achieved his biggest success with "Pick Me Up on Your Way Down" by Harlan Howard, which peaked at number 2 after signing with Columbia Records. Walker held membership in the Grand Ole Opry from 1967 and was inducted into the Country Radio DJ Hall of Fame in 1981. He passed away on September 12, 2008, at the age of 81 in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
