Censurados, a punk rock band from Lisbon, Portugal, was formed in 1988 in the Alvalade neighborhood. The group consisted of João Ribas on vocals and guitar, Orlando Cohen on guitar, Fred Valasassina on bass, and Samuel Palitos on drums. Initially gaining attention through local concerts at Rock Rendez-Vous, Censurados released their debut self-titled album Censurados in 1990 under the independent label El Tatu. Their second album, Confusão, followed in 1991. The band's third album, Sopa, was released in 1993 by EMI/Valentim de Carvalho after their growing success attracted major label interest. Known for their politically charged lyrics criticizing police, government, and censorship, Censurados contributed to a tribute album to José Afonso in 1994. Internal conflicts and financial problems led to the band's disbandment later that year. They reunited briefly in 1999 for special concerts celebrating the 20th anniversary of Xutos & Pontapés and released a live album titled Ao Vivo in 2002. The group officially disbanded in 2002.
