Biography

Battered Wives was a Canadian punk rock band from Toronto, formed in 1977. Their debut album, Battered Wives, was released in 1978, featuring hit singles "Daredevil" and "Uganda Stomp (Bomp Idi Bomp)." Despite controversy, the album sold fifty thousand copies in Canada and was certified gold. In 1979, they released Cigarettes under the name The Wives, which included the notable song "New Wave Robot." Rodney Bowes won a Juno for Best Album Graphics at the Juno Awards of 1980 for his work on this album. Their final release, Live On Mother's Day, was marred by lawsuits and did not see widespread distribution. Battered Wives disbanded shortly after its release.
