Biography

Birgitta Cecilia Vennersten‑Ingemanson, born 26 September 1970 in Sweden, is a Swedish pop singer whose career began with a televised imitation of Mariah Carey that led to her discovery by Peter Grönvall. She entered the national music contest Melodifestivalen in 1995 with "Det vackraste", finishing second and earning the 1995 Best Song award; the single was followed by "Skogens Rå" and "Lämnad I mörkret". Her debut album, Cecilia Vennersten (1995), achieved platinum sales in Sweden and Norway and included the Swedish version of "Show Me Heaven". In 1997 she released the album Till Varje Leende, En Tår, featuring the title track and other singles such as "Hur Har Vi Hamnat Här?". After a brief hiatus she returned to Melodifestivalen in 2005 with "Var Mig Nära", and in 2006 issued the album Under stjärnornas parasoll, which included the single "Leva".
