Cats Can Fly was a Canadian pop-rock band formed in 1971 at Elia Junior High School in North York, Ontario. Initially known as Ethos, the group underwent several name changes before settling on Cats Can Fly in 1982. They released an independent EP, Touch Touch, in 1984 and gained traction after winning a talent search sponsored by Craven A, securing a recording contract with CBS Records. In 1986, they released their self-titled album, featuring the singles "Flippin' to the 'A' Side", which peaked at number 16 on the charts. The band toured extensively across Canada and earned a Juno Award nomination for Most Promising Group in 1986. Despite their success, CBS dropped them ahead of its takeover by Sony Music Entertainment in 1988. The band later disbanded after an unsuccessful search for a new record label.
