Biography

California Irish is a seven-piece alt-folk and Americana ensemble from Belfast, formed and led by Cormac Neeson (known for fronting The Answer). Reverent of the Laurel Canyon sound of the late 1960s—evoking the warmth of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and early Joni Mitchell—the band brings that golden-era aesthetic into the modern era. The group initially came together for a Neil Young–inspired theatrical celebration called Re‑Harvest, where they performed Harvest Moon and Harvest back-to-back. That collaborative experience sparked Cormac Neeson’s desire to build a permanent ensemble committed to crafting music with a human touch. The debut single, “Big Questions”, released in March 2025, served as the conceiving spark for the band's musical identity and analogue recording direction. Their debut album, The Mountains Are My Friends, officially dropped in July 2025.
