Biography
California Irish is a seven-piece alt-folk and Americana ensemble from Belfast, formed and led by Cormac Neeson (known for fronting The Answer). Reverent of the Laurel Canyon sound of the late 1960sâevoking the warmth of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and early Joni Mitchellâthe band brings that golden-era aesthetic into the modern era. The group initially came together for a Neil Youngâinspired theatrical celebration called ReâHarvest, where they performed Harvest Moon and Harvest back-to-back. That collaborative experience sparked Cormac Neesonâs desire to build a permanent ensemble committed to crafting music with a human touch. The debut single, âBig Questionsâ, released in March 2025, served as the conceiving spark for the band's musical identity and analogue recording direction. Their debut album, The Mountains Are My Friends, officially dropped in July 2025.
