Biography
A native of Chicago born in the early 1970s who established herself in Portland during the late 90s, folk singer and songwriter Amy Annelle crafts melancholic, poetic songs delivered with vulnerability. She would often perform and record with Ryan Stowe as The Places in addition to her solo output. Her 1999 debut album Which Oneâs You?, captured her distinct sound, which drew comparisons to other naturalistic folkies like The Cowboy Junkies. Her 2001 follow-up, A School for Secret Dangers was recorded entirely on a four-track recorder, continuing her lo-fi sonic approach. She became a road warrior, logging many years and miles on tour before issuing The Cimarron Banks in 2010. For 2012âs The Great Unveiling, she recorded a cover of Townes Van Zandtâs âBuckskin Stallion Bluesâ, and five years later that would prove to be one of her most widely heard songs when it was used for the climactic sequence in the Oscar winning film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. During those five years, however, Annelle was diagnosed with endometriosis, a condition that forced her to stop touring and playing live that entire time.
