Biography

New Zealand rockers Cairo Knife Fight (CKF) were formed in Christchurch in 2007 by drummer Nick Gaffaney who soon began inviting other musicians to join in and flesh out his sound. Aaron Tokona (guitar and vocals), Ritchie Pickard (bass), Roslen Langton (vocals) and Katie Tayor (vocals) were among these first members. In 2009, a streamlined duo version of the band was created they earned a rapturous response opening for UK indie heroes Gomez in late 2009 at the Opera House in Wellington. Following a New Zealand tour supporting Them Crooked Vultures in 2010, the group released their debut self-titled EP, which included the radio-friendly single "This is Love." The EP was nominated for Best Rock Album at the New Zealand Music Awards in 2011. A follow-up EP, Cairo Knife Fight II, arrived in 2011 with lead guitarist and long-term Black Eyed Peas touring member George Pajon Jr. joining in 2015 for the release of The Isolator EP, which was released via Warner Music and produced by Justyn Pilbrow. Debut full-length record the Colossus also landed in 2015 with Seven following in 2017. After a six-year break, Cairo Knife Fight returned in 2023 with new single "Churn," going to number 39 on the US mainstream rock chart.
