BWO was formed in Sweden in 2003 by Alexander Bard, Martin Rolinski and Marina Schiptjenko, all of whom had prior experience in the Swedish pop scene. The trio initially performed under the name Bodies Without Organs before adopting the acronym BWO. Their debut single, "Living in a Fantasy", was released in May 2004 and reached Number 44 in Sweden, signalling the groupâs entry into the electronic pop market. The following year the group issued their first studio album, Prototype, which entered the Swedish charts at Number Two and achieved platinum status; singles such as "Sixteen Tons of Hardware" and "Sunshine in the Rain" later entered the top 20. In 2006 BWO released Halcyon Days, debuting at Number One in Sweden and spawning the chartâtopping single "Temple of Love" in March 2006. Subsequent albums Fabricator (2007), Big Science (2009), and compilation releases including Sunshine in the Rain â The Album (2009) expanded their international presence, with notable chart success in Russia, Ukraine, and Japan. BWOâs singles consistently entered Scandinavian and Eastern European top 40 lists, and the group received Grammis awards for most popular band in 2005 and 2006, as well as a Rockbjörnen award in 2005. After a period of activity until 2010, the group entered a hiatus, with members pursuing individual projects; no further releases were issued under the BWO name thereafter.
