Biography

Formed in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia in 2007, Busby Marou is a blues and roots duo formed by musicians Thomas Busby and Jeremy Marou. Coming from musical families, the two members met in Rockhampton and formed a friendship based on mutual musical interests. Initially writing and performing separately, they decided to form a duo and write and perform together. They released their first EP, The Blue Road, in 2007. Two years later, they successfully applied for a Federal Government initiative called Breakthrough, which supports indigenous contemporary musicians. Busby Marou dived headfirst into recording their debut self-titled album, which was released in 2010. The album earned the band critical acclaim, winning the Most Promising New Talent honors at the Deadly Awards in 2010. The duo signed to Warner Music, reissuing their debut, and releasing Farewell Fitzroy, their sophomore album, in 2013. The album debuted at Number 5 in the ARIA chart and was another critical success. Busby Marou spent the next few years touring and writing their third album, Postcards from the Shell (2017), which debuted at Number 1 on the album chart. Two years later, they released their fourth album, The Great Divide (2019), which also proved to be a success. After a short break, forced upon them by the COVID-19 pandemic, Busby Marou released the 2021 single “Days Like This”, a cover of the Van Morrison classic.
