Biography

Roy Book Binder, born Paul Roy Bookbinder on October 5, 1943, in Queens, New York City, is an American blues guitarist and singer-songwriter. After joining the Navy and buying his first guitar during a tour of duty in Italy, he returned to New York and became a student and friend of Reverend Gary Davis. Roy Book Binder's career began with recordings for Kicking Mule and Blue Goose Records in the mid-1960s. His debut album Travelin' Man was released on Adelphi Records in 1972. Roy Book Binder has performed at major blues and folk festivals across the U.S. and Europe, sharing the stage with notable artists such as Bonnie Raitt and B.B. King. He was also a veteran guitar instructor at the Fur Peace Ranch. Roy Book Binder died on March 3, 2026, at the age of 82.
