Eric Charles Bibb was born on 16â¯Augustâ¯1951 in Newâ¯York City and grew up in a musical family that included his father, Leon Bibb, and his uncle, pianist Johnâ¯Lewis. He learned guitar at seven, studied psychology at Columbia, and moved to Paris in 1970, where he met guitarist Mickeyâ¯Baker. His early releases, Ainât It Grand (1972) and Rainbow People (1977), established him in the American blues scene. In 1997 he issued Me to You on Codeâ¯Blue, followed by albums on Opusâ¯3, Ruf, and Telarc such as Home to Me (1999), Roadworks (2000), A Ship Called Love (2005), and Spirit Iâ¯Am (2008). Bibb collaborated with Tajâ¯Mahal, Odetta, and Mamadouâ¯Diabate, touring worldwide. He received several W.C.â¯Handy Award nominations, including Acoustic Blues Album of the Year for Spirit and the Blues (2000) and A Ship Called Love (2006), and earned a Grammy nomination for Shakinâ a Tailfeather. Following albums, including Migration Blues (2017), Riders in the Wind (2023) and One Mississippi (2026), continue to blend traditional blues with global influences.
