Biography

Born on February 1, 1959 in Des Moines, Iowa, Bruce Brubaker is a concert pianist, writer and artist. Brubaker originally studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and then in Tanglewood. He graduated with the Medal of Academic Merit He performed in concert with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and solo at the Wigmore Hall. Brubaker is best-known for his contemporary readings of classical works and his love composers John Cage or Philipp Glass. His albums include Glass Cage (2000) and Glass Piano (2015), which inspired the remix album Glass Piano: Versions (2015). He released Codex in 2018, followed that same year by the remix project Codex: Versions. Recipient of awards from the National Endowment for the Arts and Musical America Magazine, Brubaker has also recorded compositions by Alvin Curran (2007’s Hope Street Tunnel Blues), William Duckworth (2009’s Time Curve), and Meredith Monk (2014’s Piano Songs). He returned to performing Phillip Glass’ music on 2020’s Glassforms.
