Biography

Steve Reich is one of the leaders of the minimalist repetitive music movement. His early works are based on the principle of displacement, directly linked to work on magnetic tape and then applied to instruments. The recording becomes the musical material, where sounds are worked in loops. He also explores the repetition of melodic and rhythmic motifs. His research has also led him to take an interest in traditional music (Ghanaian, Balinese and Hebrew) and to adopt new musical technologies (synthesizers, samplers, etc.). From Sonic Youth to Bang on a Can, from DJ Spooky to Coldcut, many recognize Steve Reich as a major influence.
