Biography

Brian Hughes, born May 5, 1955 in Alberta, Canada, is a guitarist known for his work in smooth jazz and Latin music. He studied at Grant MacEwan College and the Banff School of Fine Arts. In 1987, Brian Hughes began collaborating with singer-songwriter Loreena McKennitt, co-producing many of her recordings and leading her touring band. His debut album Between Dusk...and Dreaming was released in 1990 on Justin Time Records. He founded Sylvan House Music in 1996, releasing albums like Straight to You, One 2 One. Brian Hughes received the SOCAN Jazz and Instrumental Composer of the Year award from 1997 to 2001 and again in 2006 and 2008. He was nominated for a Juno Award as Producer of the Year in 1991 for McKennitt's album The Visit.
