Born in Los Angeles on May 7, 1966, musician, singer and choir director Brent Ray Jones began playing the piano at the age of six and led his parish's musical services from the age of fourteen. He began his professional career under the group name Brent Jones & the T.P. Mobb, whose album reached No. 4 in the gospel charts in 1999. Moving between contemporary gospel and R&B, he went solo with albums ranked Beautiful (2002), The Ultimate Weekend (2007), Joy Comin' (2014) and Open Your Mouth and Say Something (2019), which reached #3 on the contemporary gospel charts and spawned an expanded reissue, Open Your Mouth 2.0 (2021). After the release of a first compilation in 2020, The Essential Brent Jones, Vol. 1, the artist divides himself into an album of songs released in 2022, Nothing Else Matters (Instead of Complaining, Praise Him), and another of preaching entitled Open Your Mouth (The Sermon), in 2024. The same year, he is accompanied by a choir on Brent Jones Presents the Fire, prior to the release of his positively philosophical solo opus, Live Your Best Life! In 2025, the album Praise in the Choir Stand reached number 17 on the Billboard gospel chart.
