Biography

Brent Cobb is an American singer-songwriter born on August 1, 1986 in Americus, Georgia, and raised in Ellaville, in a family steeped in country music and Southern traditions. From an early age, he sang in his father's band, which introduced him to the stage and to songwriting. As a teenager, he formed his own band, Mile Marker 5, and began composing songs influenced by traditional country, Southern rock, soul and gospel. In 2006, he recorded his first album, No Place Left to Leave, produced in Los Angeles by his cousin Dave Cobb, a rising star on the American country scene. On the advice of singer Luke Bryan, Cobb moved to Nashville in 2008, where he embarked on a career as a songwriter, writing for stars such as Miranda Lambert, Kenny Chesney, Little Big Town and Luke Bryan. At the same time, he developed his own artistic voice and released a namesake EP in 2012, before signing to Dave Cobb's Low Country Sound label, associated with Elektra. His debut album for the label, Shine on Rainy Day (2016), received a Grammy nomination in the Best Americana Album category, hailed for its intimate songwriting, soft voice and warm tone. He follows this up with Providence Canyon (2018), which deepens his exploration of Southern landscapes and culture, with more fleshed-out arrangements tinged with groove and nostalgia. In 2020, Keep 'Em on They Toes reflects a desire for authenticity and independence of spirit in a divided world, while in 2022, he offers And Now, Let's Turn to Page..., a country gospel album inspired by a serious car accident and nourished by the religious hymns of his childhood. In 2023, Southern Star affirmed his geographical and musical roots in Georgia, recorded with local musicians in Macon studios. A dominant figure in Americana, Brent Cobb continues as a group with The Fixin's on Ain't Rocked in a While (2025).
