Brave Old World is an American and German klezmer ensemble established in 1989. The group consists of the musicians Michael Alpert, Alan Bern, Kurt Bjorling, and Stuart Brotman. The ensemble was founded by the musician Joel Rubin. They achieved professional recognition for a musical style characterized by klezmer and receiving first prize at the International Klezmer Festival in 1992. Brave Old World achieved professional recognition for being described by The Washington Post as "the revival's first supergroup". Their recording career began with the studio recording Klezmer Music (1990) released on the label Flying Fish Records. Their discography included the studio recording Beyond the Pale (1994) and the studio recording Blood Oranges (1999). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the studio recording Bless the Fire (2003) and the studio recording Song of the Lodz Ghetto (2005). Their musical career included performing with the musician Itzhak Perlman.
