Biography
Bobby Shew, born Marchâ¯4,â¯1941 in Albuquerque, is a jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player. He began his career after leaving university in 1960 and serving in the U.S. Army, touring with the NORAD band. He played with Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, and appeared on Tomâ¯Jonesâ 1971 album Live at Caesar's Palace. Shewâs leadership discography began with Outstandingâ¯inâ¯Hisâ¯Field (1980), which was nominated for a Grammy, and Heavyâ¯Company (1981), followed by Yamahaâ¯Suite (1982), Oneâ¯in aâ¯Million (1992), and Tributeâ¯toâ¯theâ¯Masters (1995). He collaborated with Chuck Findley, Carl Fontana, and the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra.
