Lee Ryan and Antony Costa met in 1999 at an audition for a boy band on the TV show This Morning. They applied together, but only Lee Ryan was selected. Remaining friends, they decided in 2000 to form a new group, Blue, with Ducan James and Simon Webbe. They released their first single, "All Rise ", in 2001. It was an immediate success, reaching number four in the UK charts. The following single, "Too Close", took Blue to the top of the charts. While filming the video for the third single, the ballad "If You Come Back", the singers witnessed the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York. The song, in turn, topped the UK charts. The album All Rise followed in its wake, confirming the band's success with the general public. Without delay, a new opus was unveiled in 2002. One Love was as successful as its predecessor, with the hits "One Love" (No. 3), "Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word" (No. 1), featuring its original performer, Elton John, and "U Make Me Wanna " (No. 4). The following year, in 2003, Guilty was released. Blue's success continues unabated, as it once again reaches number one in the UK. With three albums released, Blue brings out Best of Blue, featuring his greatest hits. The album is promoted by "Only Words I Know", which reaches No. 2 in France and Italy. Following a new compilation, 4ever Blue, in 2005, featuring previously unreleased tracks and remixes, the band announced they were taking a break. The band reformed in 2011. Two new, more moderately successful albums are released: Roulette in 2013 and Colours in 2015, both of which reached number 13 in the UK charts. In 2019, the band announced that they would be concentrating on touring and had no plans for a new release. It was not until 2022 that the band returned to the studio to release Heart & Soul, their first studio album in seven years. Promoted by the tracks "Haven't Found You Yet" and "Dance with Me", it reaches number 22 in the UK charts.
