Blood from the Soul, a British metal band from Birmingham, Birminghamshire, was formed in 1993 by bassist Shane Embury as a sideâproject. The group debuted with To Spite the Gland That Breeds on 25 January 1994, establishing a raw, experimental sound. After a long period of relative quiet, they returned to the studio and released the single "Calcified Youth" on 27 October 2020, followed by the fullâlength DSMâ5 on 13 November 2020. The releases showcased Shane Emburyâs aggressive riffing and complex rhythmic structures, earning the band a niche following within underground metal circles. The project has remained active, with continued performances across the UK and occasional collaborations with other metal acts. Singer Lou Koller, a member of the band's original 1993 lineup, died in July 2026 at the age of 59.
