Black Violin, an American hip hop duo from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was formed in 2004 by classically trained string instrumentalists Kevin Sylvester and Wilner Baptiste. Known by their stage names Kev Marcus and Wil B respectively, they initially gained traction performing hip-hop covers on violins at local clubs. Their breakthrough came when they won the Showtime at the Apollo competition in 2005. This led to performances with Alicia Keys at the Billboard Awards and tours with Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park and the Wu-Tang Clan. Black Violin released their self-titled debut album in 2008, followed by Classically Trained (2013) and Stereotypes (2015). The duo has collaborated with artists such as Alessia Cara, 2 Chainz, and Lil Wayne. They also notably performed at the Kids Inaugural Concert for President Barack Obama in 2013.
