Biography

Philomena McGeachie Levy, also known as Billie Anthony, born on October 11, 1932, in Glasgow, Scotland, was a singer. Raised in a theatrical environment, she began her solo career under the stage name Billie Anthony after meeting Tony Brent, who recognized her vocal potential. Her first single, "I'd Rather Take My Time", was released in 1953 on Columbia Records. She achieved significant success with "This Ole House" in 1954, reaching number 4 in the UK chart and remaining there for sixteen weeks. This hit earned her the moniker "Britain's Blonde Bombshell." She has toured extensively throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s, performed in variety shows, and entertained troops abroad. Her recording career declined by 1960, with "A Handful of Gold" being her final release. Billie Anthony passed away on January 5, 1991.
