Biography
Bill O'Connell, who was born on August 22, 1953, in New York City, is an American jazz pianist, keyboardist, and composer. He studied piano at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and entered the New York jazz scene in the early 1970s, recording his first sessions in 1975 with Bob Emry and Greg Bobulinski on the album The Tortured Prophet. His debut album, Searching, was issued in 1978 by Inner City, and he subsequently released albums including Signature (1993), Voices (1993), and Latin Jazz Fantasy (2003). Throughout his career, he collaborated with artists such as Mongo SantamarÃa, Dave Valentin, and the New York Voices, and appeared on over 110 recording sessions. In 2021 he received a Grammy nomination for his arrangement of "Chopsticks" on the Richard Baratta album Music In Film: The Reel Deal.
