Bernard Senensky, also known as Bernie Senensky, born on December 31, 1944, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is a pianist and composer known for his contributions to jazz. He began piano lessons at age eight and discovered jazz at fourteen, studying under Bob Erlendson. By the late 1960s, he was performing with local bands. In 1968, Senensky moved to Toronto, where he worked as an accompanist for visiting musicians such as Chet Baker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sonny Stitt. He released his debut album New Life in 1976, followed by notable works like Friday the 14th (1988) and Wheel Within a Wheel (1993), both of which were nominated for Juno Awards. Senensky also received a SOCAN Award for "Blues for Clifford" and was recognized twice by Jazz Reports as the best acoustic pianist. His later albums include Homeland (2000) and Organic Earfood (2022).
