Biography

Thomas Meluch (born August 4, 1984) is an American multi-instrumentalist, writer, and photographer known as Benoît Pioulard. He began crafting experimental, folk-influenced lo-fi compositions in the mid-1990s, releasing limited CD-Rs and cassettes. His debut as Benoît Pioulard came with the 2004 compilation Random Number…Colors Start. In 2005, Kranky Records signed him, leading to acclaimed albums like Précis (2006) and Sonnet (2015). In 2010, Meluch co-founded Orcas with Rafael Anton Irisarri, releasing two albums by 2014. Exploring diverse sonic landscapes, he later worked with Beacon Sound and Morr Music. Currently based in Brooklyn, Meluch continues to blend field recordings with experimental soundscapes.
