Before the Dawn was a Finnish melodic death metal band formed in 1999 by Tuomas Saukkonen. The project began as a solo endeavor, with Saukkonen recording all instruments for the first demo To Desire Part 1. The band's initial lineup released their debut album, My Darkness, in 2003 and followed up with 4:17 am in 2004. In 2005, Saukkonen replaced all members with his "Live Assault Team," including Lars Eikind on clean vocals and bass, and released The Ghost in 2006. The band achieved chart success with singles like "Deadsong" and "Faithless", which reached number 2 on the Finnish Top 20 charts. Before the Dawn supported Amorphis on their Forging Europe Tour in late 2009 and released Deathstar Rising in March 2011, which cracked the Finnish Album Top 10. In January 2013, Saukkonen announced the disbandment of Before the Dawn to focus on his new project Wolfheart.
