Biography

BarlowGirl is a Christian rock band featuring sisters Rebecca, Lauren, and Alyssa Barlow. Born and raised in Elgin, Illinois, the siblings began performing together as backup musicians for their father during the late 1990s. By 2003, they had sharpened their songwriting chops, formed their own power trio, and signed a record deal with Fervent Records. Their self-titled debut album was released one year later, introducing a mix of pop hooks and polished, punky attitude that drew comparisons to Avril Lavigne, Superchick, and Evanescence. With songs like "Never Alone" and "Mirror" both topping the Christian charts, BarlowGirl became the highest-selling new Christian act of 2004. Another Journal Entry followed in 2005, sending the tracks "Let Go" and "I Need You to Love Me" to Number 1 and paving the way for 2007's How Can We Be Silent, whose crossover-friendly sound widened BarlowGirl's audience far beyond their Christian base. After releasing the holiday album Home For Christmas and the Dove-nominated Love & War, the Barlow sisters announced the band's retirement in October 2012.
